Senegal River agency names EDF to help plan 60-MW Felou

The three-nation Senegal River development organization has named Electricite de France (EDF) its consultant to plan the development of the 60-MW Felou hydroelectric project on the Senegal River in Mali.

The Organisation pour la Mise en Valeur du Fleuve Senegal (OMVS) awarded a US$524,767 contract to EDF to provide technical assistance for implementation of the first phase of Felou. OMVS received US$1.8 million from the World Bank’s International Development Association for the project.

Felou is one of several hydroelectric projects included in plans for the Senegal River by OMVS, which includes the nations of Mali, Mauritania, and Senegal.
