Seven generators win supply contracts for Panama

The Panama unit of Spanish utility Union Fenosa has awarded contracts to seven generators to supply 265 MW to Fenosa-owned utilities in Panama.

A Union Fenosa spokesman told Business News Americas the seven generators were chosen from 13 firms that had pre-qualified for bidding. They are to supply distribution utilities Empresa de Distribucion Electrica Metro Oeste S.A. and Empresa de Distribucion Electrica Chiriqui S.A.

Winning bidders, their supply requirements, and start of supply are: Samba Bonita Power &Metals, 180 MW, 2011; AES Panama, 50 MW, 2011 (HNN 9/19/06); Panama Canal Authority, 20 MW, January 2007; Fortuna, 10 MW, January 2007; Hidroelectrica los Estrechos, 2.5 MW, 2011; Hidromaquinas de Panama, 1.9 MW, 2009; and Saltos del Francoli, 710 kW, 2009.

The spokesman said the contracts, which vary from two to 10 years, are in the signing process.
