Siemens, VA Tech Hydro to supply Austria’s Kaprun plants

Verbund Austrian Hydro Power has awarded contracts to Siemens AG and VA Tech Hydro GmbH to supply equipment to two hydropower plants in Austria’s Kaprun hydroelectric complex.

Verbund said Siemens’ Austria unit received a contract to supply a central controlling unit for the Steiermark control room of the 112.8-MW Kaprun-Oberstufe project, which was built from 1947-1955. (HNN 3/24/06)

Verbund also awarded a 348,500 euro (US$442,260) contract to VA Tech Hydro to supply a spare Pelton turbine runner of 2,255 millimeters in diameter for the 240-MW Kaprun-Hauptstufe project. (HNN 5/18/06)

The Kaprun hydroelectric complex includes Kaprun-Hauptstufe, the main stage of the complex; Kaprun-Oberstufe, the upper stage; and 500-kW Klammsee.
