Southern California Edison mourns passing of company president Nichols

Ron Nichols, a longtime utility industry executive and consultant and most recently president of Southern California Edison (SCE), has died.

SCE and its parent company, Edison International, announced Nichols’ passing in a press release Thursday. Nichols had served as president of the utility since 2016.

The statement by Edison International CEO Pedro Pizarro praised Nichols for his leadership on clean energy issues and for championing programs to benefit customers in environmentally impact communities.

“Ron was a passionate leader of the organization, a valued member of the senior management team and a trusted friend, confidant and counselor,” Pizarro’s statement reads. “He was a role model for all of us when we say “how” we do our jobs is as important as “what” we do; he brought his best self every day.”

Nichols joined SCE in 2014 as senior vice president of regulatory affairs and nuclear. Prior to that he was general manager of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power for three years.

He also held leadership positions with Navigant Consulting and Resource Management International.

Nichols leaves behind his wife, Cheryl, and their family.
