Swedish engineering firm acquires Bulgaria firm

Sweden-based engineering group Sweco announced July 9 it acquired energy and environmental consultant Energoproekt Hydropower Ltd. of Bulgaria.

With 80 employees, Energoproekt is a leading consulting firm in hydropower that also offers consulting services in water and environment sectors, Sweco said.

“Through the acquisition we are strengthening our position in a market that is having strong growth,” Managing Director Per Johansson of Sweco, Central and Eastern Europe, said. “We are also creating conditions for continued growth in Bulgaria and in neighboring Balkan countries.”

After the acquisition, Sweco will have about 1,100 consultants in Lithuania, Estonia, Russia, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia.

In December, Sweco announced the acquisition of engineering firms in Lithuania and Norway and the addition of other staff in Central and Eastern Europe. (HNN 12/14/07) At that time it signed an agreement to acquire Hidroprojektas of Lithuania, while its Norwegian unit, Sweco Groner, signed agreements to acquire Norwegian Opticonsult and Tveiten AS.
