Swiss utility, railway convene suppliers for 600-MW project

A consortium of a Swiss utility and a federal railway invite prospective suppliers to a June 27 informational meeting on a proposed 600-MW pumped-storage project to be developed in the Swiss Alps.

Utility Aare-Tessin AG fur Elektrizitat (Atel) and federal railway SBB plan to seek tenders in the second half of 2006 for the main generating equipment, including four 150-MW variable-speed pump-turbines, asynchronous generators, and auxiliary systems. Tendering procedures will be conducted in accordance with public submission rules.

Interested, qualified suppliers are invited to attend the meeting in the project area, at SBB’s existing Chatelard hydro plant at Finhaut. The intent of the meeting is to disseminate information on the project and further procedures.

The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. June 27. Those planning to attend should notify the consortium’s project manager by June 20 in writing or by e-mail to the address below.
