The Executive Director (ED) serves as the chief executive of the Hydropower Foundation (HF) and must possess skills to interface and work with a wide range of industry, government and academic parties to seek out opportunities and funding to provide hydropower research and work force development programs to meet industry’s interests.

The ideal candidate would be personable with the ability to interface with a broad spectrum of individuals from industry, academic and government institutions. At the same time the candidate is expected to be self-starting, innovative and be able to operate with drive and enthusiasm. A broad knowledge of the hydropower industry is a definite advantage.

The HF supports several industry events and a major conference annually, activities which require ED leadership, planning and implementation. The anticipated start date for the position is April 2019. This is a part-time independent contractor position.

Founded in 1994 (as the Hydro Research Foundation), the HF was renamed in 2018 to embrace the broadened scope of its focus and activities. During its history, the HF has undertaken a variety of projects, large and small. Two major projects, each multi-year, and each receiving major financial support from the U.S. Department of Energy, are the

Advanced Hydro Turbine Project – jointly funded by the hydro industry to develop “fish friendly” turbines and the Research Fellowship Awards Program which supported more than 77 graduate students in performing hydro-related research as part of their graduate studies. Upon completing their studies, a majority of these students have accepted positions of employment within the hydro community, including jobs in government agencies, power producing companies, equipment suppliers, and engineering consultancies.

Candidates are requested to send a cover letter describing how their qualifications and interests align with the expectations of the position, a current resume, compensation expectations, and three professional references by close of business on January 31st to David at hydrofoundation.org.

Please do not contact HF staff or Board members regarding the position. Instead, send questions to the above e-mail address and responses to those questions will be shared with all candidates.
