U.S. sets bid date for runner replacement at 140-MW Trinity

SACRAMENTO, Calif., U.S. 11/15/11 (PennWell) — The Bureau of Reclamation seeks bids for replacement of turbine runners and overhaul of units at the 140-MW Trinity hydroelectric project on the Trinity River in California. Bids are due Jan. 3, 2012.

Reclamation previously predicted it would issue the solicitation in October. (HydroWorld 10/11/11) It requested information in August from small businesses capable of performing the work. (HydroWorld 8/24/11) The agency previously said it plans to seek bids to replace station service switchgear at Trinity, while the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plans to seek bids to install an innovative corrosion control system at the Reclamation project.

Reclamation now seeks bids for the turbine work in an unrestricted solicitation open to all responsible concerns. The contract is valued at more than $10 million.

Work is to include fabrication and testing of a hydraulic turbine model; furnishing two stainless steel vertical Francis turbine runners for Trinity Units 1 and 2, nose cones, and appurtenant components; furnishing coupling bolts, wear rings, wicket gates, shaft sleeve, and other parts.

U.S. sets bid date for exciter replacement at 525-MW Libby Dam

The Corps of Engineers seeks bids for replacement of five excitation systems at 525-MW Libby Dam on the Kootenai River in Montana. Bids are due Jan. 5, 2010.

The Corps previously announced it planned to seek replacement of the five excitation systems, with bids expected to be due Dec. 29, 2009. (HydroWorld 11/13/09) The Corps’ Seattle District announced in February it would award a contract to ABB Power Generation Inc. for 16 excitation systems for Libby and for 2,457.3-MW Chief Joseph Dam in Washington. The Corps seeks design, supply, and installation of five excitation systems at Libby, including removal of existing static exciters, repairing the concrete floor, and installing and testing new units. New units are to include automatic voltage regulators, power system stabilizers, and power potential transformers.
