U.S. to seek elevator work at 980-MW McNary, 1,780-MW Dalles

WALLA WALLA, Wash., U.S. 11/22/11 (PennWell) — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plans to seeks bids for maintenance and rehabilitation work on elevators at 980-MW McNary Dam and 1,780-MW Dalles Dam on the Columbia River.

The Corps’ Walla Walla District said it plans to issue a solicitation soon for personnel, materials, supplies, and equipment to perform routine cleaning, maintenance, repair, inspection, servicing, adjustments, and calibrations to three elevators at McNary, near Umatilla, Ore. The Corps plans a fixed-price contract of a base year plus four option years.

The Corps’ Portland District said it plans to issue a solicitation about Dec. 19 for refurbishment of elevators at The Dalles Dam in Klickitat County, Wash. It said the project’s original elevators have reached the end of their design life and require safety upgrades to current codes.

The Corps plans to seek all materials and labor to ensure the station service, east, and west elevators meet codes. Shafts are to be upgraded to proper fire rating, with fire detection installed at all landings. New electrical and mechanical equipment is to be provided for each elevator. The work is expected to cost between $1 million and $5 million.
