Ukraine names transformer supplier for eight hydro plants

Ukraine utility OJSC UkrHydroEnergo has named ABB AB of Sweden to supply voltage and current transformers for eight hydroelectric plants.

Under the 1.73 million euro (US$2.55 million) contract, ABB AB, High Voltage Products, is to supply 53 voltage and 199 current transformers for the eight plants: 444-MW Kaniv, 361-MW Kyiv (or Kiev), 225-MW Kyiv Pumped-Storage, 686-MW Kremenchuk (or Kremenchug), 352-MW Dniprodzerzhynsk, 702-MW Dniester (or Dnister), 651-MW Dnipro 1, and 661-MW Dnipro 2. The delivery period is four years. (HNN 2/1/08)

ABB was chosen in competition with AREVA T&D Messwandler GmbH of Germany, which bid 3.64 million euros (US$5.36 million). The contract was signed August 12.

With World Bank funding, the government of the Ukraine is carrying out a hydropower rehabilitation program to improve operational stability and reliability of hydroelectric plants. UkrHydroEnergo previously named AREVA T&D SA of Italy to supply high-voltage disconnector switches for seven hydroelectric projects. (HNN 8/12/08)
