UPDATE – Jamaica extends deadline for 60-MW BOO tender

The government of Jamaica has extended the deadline for bids to supply 60 MW of generating capacity on a build-own-operate (BOO) basis, with no specification of generating technology. Bids now are due August 28.

The government previously extended the deadline for bids for a separate tender to supply renewable energy from projects, including hydropower, to be developed on a BOO basis. (HNN 5/21/08)

Jamaica’s Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) had called for bids by July 17 to supply 60 MW of unspecified generating capacity on a BOO basis. It now extends that deadline to August 28, saying at least two potential bidders requested the extension.

OUR said an addendum to its solicitation soon would be available on its Internet site, www.our.org.jm.

Based on least-cost planning, OUR determined Jamaica will need 600 MW of additional generating capacity in the next ten years. It had previously indicated it would seek a project providing firm generating capacity from a 40-MW combustion turbine by 2009 with an option for an additional 40-MW turbine.

The request for proposals may be obtained from the OUR Internet site, www.our.org.jm, or from the address below. Bids, labeled Proposal for Provision of up to 60 MW of generating capacity on a Build-Own-Operate Basis, now must be deposited in the tender box at the address below by 3 p.m. August 28.

Jamaica extends tendering for renewables including hydro

The government previously extended the deadline for bids to supply renewable energy from projects, including hydropower, to be developed on a BOO basis. Those bids now are due July 24.

The government has set a goal that 15 percent of Jamaica’s energy come from renewables by 2020. Currently, 95 percent of the nation’s grid electricity is fueled by imported petroleum.

OUR seeks proposals for projects of at least 1 MW each that will provide a total of up to 640,000 MWh per year of energy from renewable sources by 2010. The government defines renewables to include hydropower, solar, wind, and biomass sources. (HNN 9/27/07)

The request for proposals may be obtained from the OUR Internet site, www.our.org.jm, or from the address below. Bids, labeled Proposal for Provision of Renewable Energy Based Power Generation Facilities on a Build-Own-Operate Basis, must be deposited in the tender box at the address below by 3 p.m. July 24.
