UPDATE – Pakistan extends qualifying date for 4,500-MW Basha

Pakistan’s Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) has extended the deadline for pre-qualification in three separate solicitations to build and equip the 4,500-MW Basha hydroelectric project on Pakistan’s Indus River.

The due date was extended to April 1 from March 1. (HNN 1/30/08)

The Pakistan government last year said it planned to borrow US$16 billion from international banks to build Basha (or Diamer Basha) Dam and 3,600-MW Kalabagh and 960-MW Neelum-Jhelum hydroelectric projects. (HNN 12/17/07)

WAPDA issued separate invitations for pre-qualification for three lots:
o Lot 1: Concrete dam and related structures, including diversion tunnels and permanent access bridge;
o Lot 2: Underground works and related structures (left and right bank); and
o Lot 3: Hydro-mechanical equipment and steel structural equipment.

Pre-qualification documents, in English, for each lot may be obtained from the address below for 30,000 rupees or US$500 for mailing within Pakistan. Mailing outside Pakistan requires a further fee of 9,000 rupees or US$150. Payment is by pay order or demand draft.

Applications for pre-qualification, labeled by the lot descriptions for Diamer Basha Dam, are due to the address below by April 1. Invitations to bid are expected to be issued during 2008.
