UPDATE – U.S. extends bid date for rewinds at 154-MW J.F. Carr

The Bureau of Reclamation’s Mid-Pacific Region extended the due date for proposals to rewind both generators at the 154.4-MW J.F. Carr powerhouse, west of Redding in Shasta County, Calif. The new bid date is Dec. 12.

Bids previously were due Dec. 5. (HNN 11/7/08)

The contractor is to remove and dispose of armature windings and stator cores of the two generators; furnish, install, and test new armature windings and stator cores; and remove, refurbish, reinstall, and test field windings for both generators. The contractor also will furnish spare parts for armature windings, stator cores, and field windings.

BuRec estimates the work will cost more than $10 million. The contract period is 822 days.

BuRec awarded a $5.3 million contract in 2007 to VA Tech Hydro USA Corp. to replace the turbine runners of both units. (HNN 3/29/07) Work on the turbines is scheduled for completion in August 2011.

J.F. Carr, also known as Judge F. Carr, is one of 11 hydro plants in the Central Valley Project.
