UPDATE – U.S. extends bid date to replace Folsom runners

The Bureau of Reclamation extended the due date for bids to supply replacement runners for all three turbines at the 198.72-MW Folsom hydroelectric plant, on California’s American River. The new due date is July 1.

The contractor is to: fabricate and test one turbine model and provide a test report; furnish and deliver three stainless steel vertical Francis-type runners, nose cones, and coupling bolts; and furnish and deliver shear pins. Government employees are to install the equipment.

BuRec said it could award the contract in August. The first runner is to be delivered between July 1, 2010, and Sept. 30, 2010. The second runner is to be delivered between July 1, 2011, and Sept. 30, 2011, and the third between July 1, 2012, and Sept. 30, 2012.

BuRec, the Corps of Engineers, California Department of Water Resources, and Sacramento Flood Control Agency already are doing other work at Folsom Dam. That activity is to address the structure’s hydrologic risk and to double flood protection for the city of Sacramento. (HNN 2/13/08) Folsom Dam is part of the federal Central Valley Project.
