U.S. to seek bids for generator rewinds at 980-MW McNary

The Corps of Engineers is preparing to seek bids to rewind ten generators at 980-MW McNary Dam in Umatilla County, Ore.

The Corps said it plans to complete two installations within six months, each year for five years. The work will involve Units 1 through 4 and 7 through 12 and is expected to cost more than $10 million.

The contractor is to design, manufacture, and deliver stator bars and accessories; disassemble and reassemble generators; remove old stator coils; install and test new stator windings and accessories; remove old turbine shaft sleeves and install new shaft sleeves on each unit; furnish, install, and test new switches, temperature read-outs, and automatic control of unit heaters for ten units; and remove and dispose of existing rotating exciters.

A site visit will be offered about four weeks after the solicitation is made available to bidders, the Corps said.

The Corps said the solicitation, No. W912EF09R0018, will be posted to the Federal Business Opportunities website, www.fbo.gov. Proposals will be due at least 30 calendar days after actual solicitation issuance date.
