U.S. to seek replacement runners for 199-MW Folsom

The Bureau of Reclamation plans to issue a solicitation for replacement runners for all three turbines at its 198.72-MW Folsom hydroelectric plant, on the American River northeast of Folsom, Calif.

BuRec said it plans to issue the solicitation about April 1, setting June 2 as the due date for proposals. It plans to award a firm fixed-price contract.

The contractor is to: fabricate and test one turbine model and provide a test report; furnish and deliver three stainless steel vertical Francis-type runners, nose cones, and coupling bolts; and furnish and deliver four sets of shear pins. Installation will be performed by government employees.

BuRec said it will post the solicitation, No. 08SP200039, on the Interior Department Electronic Acquisition System � Electronic Commerce Internet site: http://ideasec.nbc.gov. The solicitation and specifications must be obtained from that site; hard-copy drawings will be mailed. Other than the drawings, paper copies of the solicitation will not be distributed.

BuRec, the Corps of Engineers, California Department of Water Resources, and Sacramento Flood Control Agency already are doing other work at Folsom Dam. That activity is to address the structure’s hydrologic risk and to double flood protection for the city of Sacramento. (HNN 2/13/08) Folsom Dam is part of the federal Central Valley Project.
