VA Tech Hydro equips rehab of Austria’s 198-MW Rodundwerk 1

Austrian utility Vorarlberger Illwerke AG awarded a contract to VA Tech Hydro GmbH to supply generator rotors for refurbishment of the 198-MW Rodundwerk 1 pumped-storage project.

VA Tech Hydro is to supply two rotors for 53-MVa hydro turbine-generators at the project on Austria’s Ill River.

Illwerke has been carrying out general refurbishment of four turbine-generators at Rodundwerk 1 over several years. In 2004, it awarded a contract to Siemens AG Osterreich to renovate and upgrade automation and controls.
