VA Tech Hydro to overhaul pump at Switzerland’s 124-MW Chatelard

VA Tech Hydro AG has received a contract to overhaul a pump siphon at the 124-MW Chatelard hydroelectric project at Finhaut, Switzerland.

Federal railway Chemins de Fer Federaux Suisses CFF Infrastructure, Energie awarded the contract to VA Tech Hydro to perform the first major refurbishment of pump No. 1 at Chatelard.

The contractor was chosen without competition because it is the successor to the original supplier of the equipment and had the necessary drawings and knowledge for the work.

Additionally, VA Tech Hydro already was working on site, replacing Pelton turbine runners under a 1.15 million franc (US$944,800) contract awarded last year. (HNN 5/17/07)
