Scottish and Southern Energy plc (SSE) awarded a 20.4 million euro (US$24.25 million) contract to VA Tech Hydro to supply and install complete electro-mechanical equipment for the 100-MW Glendoe hydroelectric project at Glendoe, near Loch Ness in Scotland.

VA Tech Hydro is subcontractor to Germany’s Hochtief AG, which won a turnkey contract to build Glendoe, the United Kingdom’s first large-scale hydro scheme in 40 years.

The Austrian firm is to supply a 100-MW Pelton turbine with vertical shaft and six nozzles, a governor, spherical valve, 120-MVa synchronous generator, controls, electrical plant equipment and auxiliary systems. Installation will be carried out with U.K. partner Weir Engineering Services.
