VA Tech to automate two Austria plants

Verbund Austrian Hydro Power AG has named VA Tech SAT GmbH &Co. of Austria to supply an automation system for the 135-MW Gerlos 2 and 25-MW Funsingau hydroelectric projects in Austria.

VA Tech SAT was one of two bidders for the work, which includes planning, supply, assembly, testing, and startup of an automation system at Gerlos 2, which is being built on the Gerlos River, and Funsingau, which is operating on the Ziller River.

The work is to include machine and switchgear instrumentation, and mechanical electrical protection for both plants, plus a turbine governor and excitation for Funsingau. The system is to be linked to the Zillertal central control room in Mayerhofen.
