Vietnam utility to complete five hydro plants in 2009

State utility Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) expects to complete five hydroelectric projects totaling 1,055 MW in 2009.

The projects include 250-MW Ba Ha in Phu Yen Province (HNN 9/18/07), 280-MW Buon Kuop (HNN 2/13/07) and 85-MW Buon Ta Sa (or Buon Ta Sha) (HNN 5/3/06) in Dak Lak Province, and 110-MW Plei Krong (or Pleikrong) and 330-MW Se San 4 (or Sesan 4) in Kon Tum Province. (HNN 9/19/07)

EVN also plans to bring the 320-MW Ban Ve hydro project on line in 2010 in Nghe An Province. (HNN 2/13/07) Ban Ve’s completion, originally set for 2009, was delayed by an accident during construction.

EVN’s Finance Joint Stock Co. issued bonds worth 500 billion dong (US$28.6 million) in January to fund 14 hydro projects and a thermal plant.

Hydro projects to be financed include Ba Ha, Ban Ve, Buon Kuop, Buon Tua Sa, Se San 4, 210-MW A Vuong (HNN 11/14/08), 163-MW An Khe Kanak (HNN 8/30/06), 220-MW Ban Chat, 180-MW Dong Nai 3 (HNN 3/15/07), 340-MW Dong Nai 4 (HNN 8/7/06), 520-MW Huoi Quang (HNN 4/9/08), 2,400-MW Son La (HNN 11/13/07), 190-MW Song Tranh 2 (HNN 7/11/07), and 220-MW Srepok 3.
