Voith Hydro acquires Canadian hydro mechanical equipment manufacturer

The Voith Group has acquired Canadian hydropower technology manufacturer Vortex Hydrosystemes Inc., the company has announced.

Founded in 2001, Vortex Hydro offers auxiliary mechanical systems, hydraulic power units, speed governor upgrades, water filtration systems, lube oil systems and plant piping design in addition to rehabilitation, upgrade and modernization services.

“We are very excited about the addition of Vortex Hydro into the larger Voith family,” Voith Hydro Canada President and CEO Denys Turcotte said. “Vorte x Hydro will complement our existing after-market business in Canada and the U.S., and expand Voith’s products to new and future customers.”

Vortex Hydro will retain its name and current location in Granby while operating as a unit within Voith Hydro.

“By fully integrating Vortex Hydro into Voith, we will benefit from Voith’s global reach and 140 years of experience in the hydropower sector,” Vortex Hydro founder and President Richard Evoy said. “The future for our company is indeed bright.”
