Voith Siemens initiates China generator workshop

Voith Siemens Hydro Power Generation celebrated the start of construction of its new generator manufacturing facility in Shanghai with fireworks and a cornerstone unveiling.

Voith said December 12 that Voith Siemens Chief Executive Hubert Lienhard and President Huang Dinan of partner Shanghai Electric Corp. unveiled the cornerstone of the new plant. Officials of Shanghai government and of hydro developer China Three Gorges Project Corp. also participated in the groundbreaking.

With an investment of 7 million euros (US$8.9 million), the generator manufacturing facility is to start operation by the end of 2007. The 3,200-square-meter facility is to employ 80 people.
