Voith Siemens to equip Peru’s 220-MW El Platanal

Voith Siemens Hydro Power Generation has received a 25 million euro (US$29.7 million) contract to equip the 220-MW El Platanal multipurpose project on the Canete River south of Lima.

El Platanal is being developed by cement producers Cementos Lima S.A. and Cemento Andino S.A., with ARPL Tecnologia S.A.

Voith Siemens’ Sao Paulo facility is to supply two vertical Pelton turbines of 110 MW each, with an operating head of more than 600 meters. The company also will supply 120-MVa generators, an automation system, governors, and excitation.

Siemens, as a partner in the project, is to supply electrical equipment and mechanical auxiliary systems. Commissioning is scheduled for May 2008.
