Voith Siemens to supply units to 480-MW Limberg 2

Verbund Austrian Hydro Power has awarded a 33 million euro (US$42.2 million) contract to Voith Siemens Hydro Power Generation to equip the 480-MW Limberg 2 pumped-storage project in Austria.

Verbund plans to build an underground powerhouse as part of the Glockner Kaprun scheme, near the 240-MW Kaprun project. The pumped-storage project will employ the existing storage reservoirs of Mooserboden and Wasserfallboden.

Voith Siemens is to supply two 240-MW reversible vertical Francis pump-turbines and governor equipment. The first unit is to be commissioned in 2011, with construction to be complete in 2012.

Poyry Energy business group previously received a 13 million euro (US$15.4 million) contract for detailed design and site supervision.
