Youlen receives 2009 Henwood award

David Youlen, senior vice president of Brookfield Renewable Power Inc., received the 2009 Kenneth Henwood award, the highest honor conferred to an individual by the National Hydropower Association (NHA).

The Henwood award recognizes individual leadership and dedication to hydropower as an energy technology. It was presented to Youlen at Waterpower XVI, a conference and trade show held July 27-30 in Spokane, Wash.

Youlen, former president of the NHA, has more than 30 years experience in the hydropower industry. A licensed engineer in New York State, Youlen earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He serves on the board of the Independent Power Producers of New York.

“He has been a leading force in educating special interest groups that oppose hydro,” said Debbie Young, who served on NHA’s judging committee and presented the award to Youlen. “His energy and sincerity have inspired many of us in this room to reach out to others in promoting hydro as the best clean energy resource available.”
