Corps seeks bids to maintain, repair California dams

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seeks bids from small businesses to maintain and repair more than a dozen dams in the Corps’ Sacramento District of California. Bids are due Aug. 30.

The Corps’ Sacramento District sought information in February on small businesses capable of performing the work. Work is to be performed at dams throughout California, many associated with non-governmental hydropower projects licensed by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

The list includes Lake Isabella Dam, which is site of the 11.95-MW Isabella project (No. 8377). Like a number of dams on the list, Isabella, on the Kern River, is being studied for remedial actions to prevent possible failure during earthquakes.

The project list also includes: Success Lake Dam, site of the 1.4-MW Success project (No. 3038); Lake Kaweah Dam, site of the 17-MW Terminus project (P-3947); Pine Flat Dam, site of the 165-MW Pine Flat project (No. 2741); Hensley Lake (Hidden Dam); Eastman Lake (Buchanan Dam); New Hogan Dam, site of the 2.65-MW New Hogan project (No. 2903); Englebright Dam, site of the 12-MW Narrows project (No. 1403) and a portion of the 395-MW Yuba River project (No. 2246); Martis Creek Dam; Black Butte Dam, site of the 6.2-MW Black Butte project (No. 3190); and the Merced Stream Group (Burns, Bear, Owens, and Mariposa dams).

The Corps seeks bids for an indefinite delivery indefinite quantity contract for dam maintenance and repairs, including, but not limited to, emergency and service gates; low-flow gates; tainter radial gates; conduit liners; penstocks; breast walls; trash racks; bulkhead gates; all facets of painting, paint removal, and concrete repair; spillways; intakes; plumbing, electrical, hydraulic, and pump systems; wing walls, drain holes; vertical drains; conduits; and gate seals for Sacramento District dams. The contract is to cover five years at a maximum cost of $5 million.
