Dam safety group seeks technical seminar organizer

The Association of State Dam Safety Officials seeks statements of qualifications and proposals from engineering firms, research groups, academics, and others to develop and conduct regional technical seminars on conduits, valves, and gates at dams. Proposals are due Feb. 28.

ASDSO said seeks proposals to conduct four regional seminars, in the Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, and West. State dam safety personnel and other dam safety engineers and professionals are expected to attend.

The two- to four-day seminars are to be held in locations selected by ASDSO. The instructor will provide all speakers and technical materials, including a course manual to be developed according to ASDSO guidelines. ASDSO is responsible for advertising the event, registration, and coordinating site arrangements.

Once a proposal is selected, ASDSO will contract with the instructor to plan, develop, and conduct the seminar. The schedule for the seminars is determined annually by ASDSO’s Technical Training Committee and regional representatives.
The regional seminars form one component of the Technical Training Program, administered by ASDSO and funded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency’s National Dam Safety Program.

Selections will be announced in April. Once a proposal is chosen and a contract executed, the contractor will have seven months to develop the seminar and training materials. Regional seminars will be scheduled, beginning in November.

The solicitation can be obtained from ASDSO’s Internet site, www.damsafety.org, under Conferences &Training and ASDSO Technical Seminars. Proposals are due Feb. 28 to ASDSO, Regional Technical Seminars, 450 Old Vine St., Second Floor, Lexington, KY 40507.
