ASI Services Techniques Inc., a division of ASI Group Ltd., and Canadian energy provider Hydro Québec have signed an agreement for the commercialization of the WireScan laser scanning tool for components of dams associated with hydroelectric projects.
This new technology was developed by the Hydro-Quebec research and development team and can precisely measure components such as stop log and gate slots above and below the waterline.
WireScan produces engineering-level, three-dimensional data, providing dam owners measurable and benchmark data that are critical for condition assessment and asset management. The WireScan data enables dam owners to identify anomalies and allow for planned repairs, thereby optimizing refurbishment strategies, while reducing the risk of consequential gate failure. This technology also significantly reduces risks for workers by limiting traditional manned inspections.

ASI provides underwater inspection, maintenance and repair, and biofouling (mussel) monitoring and control services throughout the world.
Hydro-Québec generates, transmits and distributes electricity. It is Canada’s largest electricity producer and uses mainly renewable generating options, in particular large hydro. Hydro-Québec operates a vast hydroelectric production park consisting of 688 dams, 62 hydroelectric plants and 99 spillways. Its research facilities, Institut de recherche d’Hydro-Québec (IREQ), conduct R&D in energy-related fields, including energy efficiency and storage.
