Macedonia seeks multi-purpose study of Vardar River

SKOPJE, Macedonia 5/15/12 (PennWell) — Macedonia’s Ministry of Economy seeks bids to perform a pre-feasibility study of multi-purpose utilization of Macedonia’s Vardar River, including hydropower. Bids are due June 4.

The ministry invited pre-qualification in 2009 for concessions to develop 12 hydropower projects on the Vardar totaling 325 MW.

The ministry now seeks bids to perform a pre-feasibility study of multi-purpose utilization of the Vardar through electricity generation; improving water supply and irrigation; flood protection; development of economic activities such as tourism, agriculture, and industry; transportation; and environmental protection.

Work is expected to require 24 months by an expert team including a hydropower construction engineer and mechanical and electrical engineers with experience in hydropower projects.
