Emerson wins supply contract for Ukraine’s Kyiv pumped-storage hydro project

Ukraine utility OJSC UkrHydroEnergo has awarded Emerson LLC a $1.48 million contract to supply a static frequency converter for the 225-MW Kyiv pumped-storage hydro project.

The World Bank signed a loan agreement with the Ukraine government in 2010, providing an additional $60 million in financing for the Ukraine’s hydropower rehabilitation program to improve operational stability and reliability of hydroelectric plants.

In other news, the second unit of Ukraine’s Dnister pumped-storage hydropower project is on schedule for operation in 2012, media reports indicate. Dnister will be one of the largest pumped-storage hydro projects in the world.

Officials said construction of the hydro project is going as planned and that project deadlines will be met, Ukraine media reported.
