Italy utility pre-qualifies small hydro builders

Turin-based utility Azienda Energetica Metropolitana Torino SpA (AEM Torino) invites expressions of interest from firms with experience building hydroelectric projects of less than 3 MW. Responses are due September 26.

AEM Torino announced a qualification system for contractors, rather than an actual request for proposals. It said pre-qualified contractors subsequently would be invited to negotiate contracts to build hydro projects of less than 3 MW without additional solicitation notices.

Qualified contractors must have: appropriate registrations and certifications; credit references of at least 1 million euros (US$1.28 million); total turnover in 2003-2005 of at least 6 million euros (US$7.7 million); and evidence they have planned and built at least five hydro projects of less than 3 MW in the past five years.

Expressions of interest and qualifications are due by noon September 26 to Azienda Energetica Metropolitana Torino SpA, via Bertola 48, All’attenzione di: Acquisti e Approvvigionamenti I-101122 Torino, Italy; (39) 011-5549111; Fax: (39) 011-5549154; E-mail: segreteria_approvvigionamenti@aem.torino.it; Internet: www.aem.torino.it.
