Mavel completes refurbishment of two Finland projects

Mavel a.s. of the Czech Republic has announced the commissioning of two small hydro projects in Finland for which Mavel supplied turbine-generators and related equipment for refurbishment.

Mavel received contracts in October 2006 from Vaasa Engineering Ltd., acting on behalf of project owner Savon Voima Oy, to replace equipment at the 730-kW Alasorsakoski and 540-kW Ylasorsakoski hydroelectric projects. (HNN 11/16/06)

The Czech firm supplied a five-bladed vertical Kaplan turbine of 1,290 millimeters in diameter, generator, and hydraulic unit for Alasorsakoski. The project has a head of 10.4 meters, and a flow of 8 cubic meters per second.

Mavel supplied a four-bladed vertical Kaplan of 1,290 millimeters in diameter, generator, and hydraulic unit for Ylasorsakoski, which has a head of 7.55 meters and a flow of 8 cms.

Mavel said the contracts were the firm’s second and third projects with the Finland-based Vaasa Engineering.
