Nine hydropower plants to be built in Belarus

Belarus intends to construct nine new hydroelectric power projects by 2020, Belarus Vice Premier Vladimir Semashko announced.

A 17-MW hydropower plant in Grodno is scheduled to be commissioned later this year, reports indicate. Preparations also are under way to build a hydropower plant in Polotsk.

In January 2010, Technopromexport signed a contract worth approximately USD100 million to build the Polotsk hydropower plant on the Western Dvina River in Belarus.
