Pre-qualification invited to refurbish Cameroon’s 263-MW Edea

Cameroon utility AES SONEL invites applications for pre-qualification to refurbish the 263-MW Edea hydroelectric project on Cameroon’s Sanaga River. Responses are due, on the Internet, before February 28.

AES SONEL, which is 56 percent owned by AES Corp. of the United States, plans to seek bids for turnkey rehabilitation of the project, including generating units, controls and protection, and heavy electro-mechanical equipment.

Edea’s 14 units were constructed from 1949 to 1975 in three phases. AES SONEL has applied for a loan from the European Investment Bank for the refurbishment project. Work is expected to begin in July.

After receiving expressions of interest and pre-qualification, AES SONEL plans to give suitable candidates access to request for proposal documents.

Pre-qualification applications must be made, before February 28, on the Internet site www.poweradvocate.com under Register. The registration page must be completed, with “Edea refurbishment” indicated in the referral field. After registration, AES SONEL will confirm an applicant’s participation by e-mail, allowing the applicant to return to the Internet site, log on, and download further information.
