Two contracts awarded for work related to the 3.2-GW Yacyreta hydro project

Entidad Binacional Yacyreta (EBY) announces it has signed two contracts related to work on the 3.2-GW Yacyreta hydro project on the Parana River between Argentina and Paraguay.

One is the electromechanical equipment supply contract for the 270-MW Aña Cua powerhouse with Voith Hydro Ltda. The total amount of the contract is US$99,689,577.84.

The work includes the installation of three vertical axis Kaplan turbines, 90.20 MW in capacity. The construction of Aña Cua will mean a 10% increase in power generation from the site.

The contract covers the provision of the main generation equipment for the three Aña Cua machines, such as generators, turbines, gates and others, as well as electromechanical equipment for fish passage facilities.

Previously, EBY signed the engineering and executive project service contract with the Intertechne firm.

Through a transparent process, EBY managed to reduce by 45% the cost of constructing Aña Cua, in relation to the reference prices established by previous administrations.

The Yacyreta powerhouse, located on the Main Arm of the river, contains 20 Kaplan turbine-generator units. On the Ana Cua Arm of the river, a dam with 16 radial gates was built.

For the second contract, EBY awarded to the IMPSA-CIE Consortium the “Rehabilitation of Generators in the Yacyretá Hydroelectric Power Plant” works. The amount to be paid for the work amounts to US$25,089,668. The purpose of the contract is the rehabilitation of six generator units, restoring the conditions of reliability, efficiency and safety of the equipment.

The offers received were from Pescarmona Metallurgical Industries – Electromechanical Engineering Consortium, Voith Hydro Ltd. and Ansaldo Energy spa.
