Dam society plans new outstanding paper award

The U.S. Society on Dams plans to present a new award, the Outstanding Paper by a Young Professional, at its 2010 Annual Meeting and Conference, April 12-16, 2010, in Sacramento.

USSD’s 2010 theme, Collaborative Management of Integrated Watersheds, is to deal with productive and sustainable use of water resources. Papers are sought on a wide range of topics within that framework.

The deadline for submitting a 200- to 400-word abstract for the conference has been extended to July 31.

The Outstanding Paper by a Young Professional award is addition to USSD’s existing Outstanding Paper award. To be eligible for the new award, authors must be 35 or younger as of Dec. 31, 2010, and an author or co-author of a paper presented at the conference. The winner will be selected based on technical content, graphics, relevance, and presentation.

“This is a good opportunity to see some new faces and develop our future dam safety professionals,” USSD Executive Director Larry Stephens said.

The conference’s Call for Papers can be obtained from the Internet at http://ussdams.org/2010conf.html.
