FERC extends comment deadline on small hydro licensing process

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has extended the deadline for comments on its process for issuing licenses and exemptions to small hydroelectric projects.

In a Dec. 2, 2009, FERC technical conference, hydropower industry officials urged the commission to take several steps to simplify the process to obtain small hydro licenses and exemptions. (HydroWorld 12/4/09) Commission staff had called for comments on the process to be submitted by Jan. 4, 2010.

In response to a joint motion by American Rivers and the National Hydropower Association, FERC extended the comment deadline to Feb. 4. FERC said the groups argued that additional time would allow for the submission of thoughtful and more detailed comments.

FERC is taking comments under Docket AD09-9. Comments may be filed electronically or on paper. Filing instructions are on FERC’s Internet site, www.ferc.gov, under Documents and Filing. For information, contact Steve Hocking, FERC, (1) 202-502-8753; E-mail: steve.hocking@ferc.gov.
