FERC workshop to discuss dam security, safety

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is to sponsor a workshop on dam security, dam safety, and emergency preparedness June 12-13 in Colorado.

FERC said the two-day meeting, on unifying safety and security, is planned for the Sheraton Denver West hotel in Lakewood, Colo. It is one in a series of workshops, the most recent being held in April 2006 in Washington.

Utility companies, the Department of Homeland Security, and other federal and state agencies have been invited to the workshop. Initiatives of Homeland Security Presidential Directive No. 7 that affect dams will be discussed.

The workshop is open to people employed in dam safety, hydropower, reservoir recreation, and dam operation; security; law enforcement; emergency response; or federal, state, and local regulation.

Registration can be completed on FERC’s Internet site, www.ferc.gov/whats-new/registration/security-6-12-form.asp. There is no registration fee.
