Spokane plays host to Waterpower XVI conference

More than 1,500 hydro professionals are expected to gather July 27-30, 2009, in Spokane, Wash., for Waterpower XVI to discuss the latest innovations in hydropower production and design.

Organized by PennWell Corporation, the conference is the world’s largest gathering of hydropower experts featuring more than 250 speakers and more than 280 exhibits showcasing the products and services of companies and organizations active in hydropower and water resources.

Workshops and roundtable discussions will center on a variety of critical issues for the growing industry, including climate change, the role of hydropower in a carbon-constrained world, and advances in the use of ocean waves to generate electricity.

“Since its inception in 1979, Waterpower has provided a forum where individuals and companies can share new ideas, technology, approaches, and solutions to build and strengthen hydropower as the world’s leading source of renewable energy,” said Marla Barnes, publisher of the Hydro Group for PennWell.

Hydro professionals from more than 40 countries are expected to attend the four-day conference, held at the Spokane Convention Center. For a special report see, Hydro Review July 2009. For more information, go to www.waterpowerconference.com. For press credentials, call 1-888-299-8016.
