ABB selected for Axpo generator refurbishments

VALAIS, Switzerland 5/2/12 (PennWell) — Power and automation group ABB has received orders worth approximately US $20 million to refurbish generators at two Axpo-managed hydroelectric facilities.

The Mattmark and Mauvoism plants, located in the canton of Valais, combine for an output of 680-MW.

“The upgrade and refurbishment of these hydropower plants will increase the availability of power supplies and enhance efficiency and reliability,” says Franz-Josef Mongede, an executive from ABB’s power systems division.

ABB and Axpo have also teamed up on a $120 million pumped storage facility that is being installed in the Linthal Valley in eastern Switzerland.
