Koontz Electric awarded contract for work at 603-MW Ice Harbor hydro plant

WALLA WALLA, Wash. 3/29/12 (PennWell) — Koontz Electric Company Inc., has been awarded a contract worth more than US$193,400 for work at the 603-MW Ice Harbor hydroelectric project on the Snake River in Washington.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Walla Walla District most recently solicited bids for the project in February 2011.

The contract was a set-aside for small businesses and calls for the removal of Ice Harbor’s existing Bank T6 transformer and electrical components.

Koontz is also to install a new three-phase, 115-kV transformer that was purchased under a separate contract.

The Arkansas-based elctric company will also be responsible for electrical and mechanical modifications that might be necessary for the transformer’s installation and operation.

The Corps has also recently solicited bids for elevator work and gate cable installation for Ice Harbor.
