Ukraine awards circuit breaker contracts for four hydro plants

Ukraine utility OJSC UkrHydroEnergo has awarded a contract to Areva T&D SA of France to supply circuit breakers for four hydroelectric projects.

Areva T&D received a 2.56 million euro (US$4 million) contract to supply high-voltage circuit breakers for the 444-MW Kaniv, 661-MW Dnipro 2, 686-MW Kremenchuk, and 702-MW Dnister hydroelectric projects. Equipment is to be delivered over five years.

Areva T&D was chosen in competition with ABB Ltd. of Sweden and Siemens AG of Germany. (HNN 7/19/07)

The solicitation was one of two seeking circuit breakers for Ukrainian plants. UkrHydroEnergo recently awarded a contract to ABB Switzerland Ltd. to supply circuit breakers for three hydroelectric projects, Kaniv, Dnipro 2, and 361-MW Kyiv (or Kiev). (HNN 2/6/08)

With World Bank funding, the government of the Ukraine is carrying out a hydropower rehabilitation program to improve operational stability and reliability of hydroelectric plants. Most recently, UkrHydroEnergo called for bids by April 7 to supply voltage and current transformers for eight hydro plants. (HNN 2/1/08)
