Ukraine awards phone equipment contract for hydro plants

Ukraine utility OJSC UkrHydroEnergo has awarded a contract to a Ukrainian firm to supply telephone networks for five hydroelectric plants and a project office.

The hydro operator awarded a 7.2 million hryvna (US$1.2 million) contract to KAPSCH Telecom SC of Kiev for the three-year contract. KAPSCH was chosen in competition with OOO Siemens Enterprise Communications of Moscow. (HNN 4/29/08)

KAPSCH is to supply and install six private automated branch exchanges (PABX) with voice recording systems and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) for five plants — 686-MW Kremenchuk, 352-MW Dniprodzerzhynsk, 702-MW Dniester, 651-MW Dnipro 1, and 661-MW Dnipro 2 — plus the Dniester hydro project office building.

With World Bank funding, the government of the Ukraine is carrying out a hydropower rehabilitation program to improve operational stability and reliability of its hydroelectric plants. (HNN 8/25/08)
