U.S. hydro turbine panel recruits members

The United States National Committee to the International Electrotechnical Commission/Turbine Committee (IEC/TC4) seeks new members having knowledge in areas of hydraulic turbines, pumps, and related equipment.

The United States committee represents the U.S. hydropower community in providing comments to, and accepting all, new and revised IEC standards and guides for hydraulic turbines, pumps, and pump/turbines. Existing standards and guides cover such subjects as model testing; manufacturing tolerances; field testing; governors and controls; cavitation pitting; tendering documents; nomenclature; commissioning, operation, and maintenance; small turbines; vibration; and rehabilitation.

Most committee work is accomplished by mail or telephone. Usually one meeting per year is conducted in conjunction with a major hydro conference, such as HydroVision or Waterpower.

Knowledge of hydropower is the only criteria for membership. A $250 annual membership fee covers administrative expenses.
