Burundi extends bidding for rehab of 18-MW Rwegura, 1.44-MW Nyemanga

Burundi’s water and electric utility has extended the deadline for bids to rehabilitate the 18-MW Rwegura and 1.44-MW Nyemanga hydroelectric projects. Bids now are due May 16.

Regie de Production et de Distribution d’Eau et d’Electricite (REGIDESO) previously called for bids by April 15. The agency also took bids in 2009 to rehabilitate Rwegura, on the Gitenge River; Nyemanga, on the Siguvyaye River; and three other small hydro projects, 850-kW Kayenzi, Kavuruga River; 240-kW Marangara, Ndurumu River; and 72-kW Sanzu, Sanzu River.

The government said it received a grant for the work from the World Bank’s International Development Association for an emergency project for the electricity sector, Projet d’Urgence pour le Secteur Electricite (PURSE).

REGIDESO said bidders may compete for either or both projects. Rehabilitation is to include mechanical, electro-mechanical, and automation equipment.
