Burundi seeks rehab of 18-MW Rwegura, 1.44-MW Nyemanga

Burundi’s water and electric utility seeks bids for rehabilitation of the 18-MW Rwegura and 1.44-MW Nyemanga hydroelectric projects. Bids are due April 15.

Regie de Production et de Distribution d’Eau et d’Electricite (REGIDESO) previously called for bids in 2009 to rehabilitate Rwegura, on the Gitenge River; Nyemanga, on the Siguvyaye River; and three other small hydro projects, 850-kW Kayenzi, Kavuruga River; 240-kW Marangara, Ndurumu River; and 72-kW Sanzu, Sanzu River.

The government said it received a grant for the work from the World Bank’s International Development Association for an emergency project for the electricity sector, Projet d’Urgence pour le Secteur Electricite (PURSE).

REGIDESO said bidders may compete for either or both projects. Rehabilitation is to include mechanical, electro-mechanical, and automation equipment.

Tender documents in French may be obtained from the address below for US$100 or 120,000 Burundi francs. Payment is to be made to accounts 201-0073823-53/BIF (francs) or 201-0173824-47/USD (dollars), Banque de Credit de Bujumbura, in the name of REGIDESO/Projet d’Urgence pour le Secteur Electricite (PURSE).

Burundi seeks rehab of five small hydros, transmission

Burundi’s water and electric utility seeks bids for rehabilitation of five small hydroelectric projects totaling 19.6 MW and two electricity distribution networks. Bids are due August 17, 2009.

The government said it received US$10.96 million from the African Development Fund for rehabilitation and extension of electricity infrastructure. Burundi recently recruited financial management consultants for a separate water and electricity infrastructure program funded by the World Bank. (HydroWorld 2/2/09)

In the current solicitation, Regis de Production et de Distribution d’Eau et d’Electricite (REGIDESO) seeks bids for any or all of three lots:
o Lot 1: Rehabilitation of five hydro plants: 18-MW Rwegura on the Gitenge River; 1.44-MW Nyemanga, Siguvyaye River; 850-kW Kayenzi, Kavuruga River; 240-kW Marangara, Ndurumu River; and 72-kW Sanzu, Sanzu River.
o Lot 2: Construction of two 30/10-kilovolt extensions of distribution in Bujumbura and associated 30-kV lines; and
o Lot 3: Rehabilitation of the medium voltage network in Bujumbura.
