Dam safety consultants recruited for Drin, Mat rivers in Albania

Albanian Power Corp. (KESH) invites expressions of interest from consultants to provide technical assistance to strengthen the dam safety program at hydropower projects on the Drin and Mat rivers in Albania. Responses are due April 23.

KESH previously recruited tendering assistance to implement dam safety work at hydropower projects on the Drin and Mat. (HydroWorld 3/31/09) It also said it would take bids for dam safety work at three major projects on the Drin totaling 1,450 MW. (HydroWorld 4/14/09) Also under construction on the Drin is the 48-MW Ashta hydropower project. (HydroWorld 3/4/10)

With funding from the World Bank’s International Development Association, KESH now seeks consultants to: review and update performance of the Drin and Mat cascades during the flood of December 2009-January 2010; review the organizational structure of KESH dam safety and emergency operations in KESH headquarters and individual hydropower plants; review staff requirements; reassess and upgrade hydrological safety guidelines; and prepare a dam safety master plan for Albania.

Work is to begin before September and be complete before January 2011.

Expressions of interest and qualifications, in paper or electronic format, are due by April 23 to the address below. Responses must be labeled “Expression of Interest for Institutional Strengthening of Dam Safety and Emergency Preparedness Plan.”
