Equipment bidding extended for Romania’s 55-MW Surduc Nehoiasu

Romania utility Hidroelectrica SA has extended the deadline for bids to supply mechanical and electrical equipment for the 55-MW Surduc Nehoiasu hydroelectric project on the Basca Mare River in Romania. Bids now are due November 22.

Hidroelectrica previously called for bids by November 5. The utility also extended the deadline for obtaining documents to November 15 from October 29.

Surduc Nehoiasu is part of a 400-MW Siriu-Surduc-Nehoiasu hydroelectric development originally planned by Hidroelectrica on Buzau River and its tributaries, but stalled by political and economic changes. Based on an optimization study, Surduc Nehoiasu was scaled down from 155 MW to 55 MW. Hidroelectrica, operator of 276 hydroelectric projects totaling 6,374 MW, plans to sell carbon emissions credits for the project through a project development company.

Hidroelectrica seeks bids for nine lots of mechanical and electrical equipment for Surduc Nehoiasu valued at a total of nearly US$24 million.

The utility seeks bids for the following lots, with their estimated values:
o Lot 1A – Mechanical equipment for water intake, 1.7 million lei (US$540,000);
o Lot 2A – Mechanical equipment for valve chamber pressure node, 9 million lei (US$2.8 million);
o Lot 3A – Mechanical equipment for Surduc Dam, 9.1 million lei (US$2.9 million);
o Lot 4A – Mechanical equipment for Nehoiasu 2 power plant, 40.8 million lei (US$12.9 million);
o Lot 1B – Automation and electrical protection, 9.1 million lei (US$2.9 million);
o Lot 2B – Primary electrical equipment, 1.5 million lei (US$476,000);
o Lot 3B – Electrical equipment at dam, 384,000 lei (US$122,000);
o Lot 4B – Electrical equipment for valve chamber pressure node, 257,000 lei (US$82,000);
o Lot 5B – Transformers, 3.9 million lei (US$1.2 million).
