Generating unit, crane overhauls sought for 6,809-MW Grand Coulee

The Bureau of Reclamation seeks bids for overhaul of three generating units and for crane control modifications in the Third Power Plant at the 6,809-MW Grand Coulee hydroelectric project. Bids in separate solicitations are due in October and November.

The agency recently awarded Knight Construction & Supply Inc. a US$1.5 million contract for modifications to a wheel-mounted gate servicing chamber in the Third Power Plant. The bureau seeks bids Nov. 16 for overhaul of units G-22, G-23, and G-24 at the Third Power Plant on the Columbia River, about 90 miles west of Spokane, Wash. (HydroWorld 4/26/10) The work is to include disassembling generators and turbines, overhauling and refurbishing or replacing components, and reassembling the units. The work is valued at more than $10 million.

Crane control modifications sought for Third Power Plant

The bureau seeks bids Oct. 6 for upgrade and modernization of the control systems of six large power plant cranes in the Third Power Plant.

The cranes currently have constant-speed mechanical control systems that are to be replaced with digital variable-frequency drive control systems. The cranes include three bridge cranes, 50-ton Ederer No. 4, 270-ton Ederer No. 1, and 275-ton Ederer No. 2; and three gantry cranes, 275-ton Forebay Gantry Crane, 270-ton Draft Tube Gantry Crane, and 2,000-ton RAHCO Gantry Crane.

The work is valued at between $10 million and $25 million.
